Exempted Category Cell
Introduction
Certain classes of job aspirants have been included in Exempted Category. For them 30% vacancies have been reserved (In terms of G.O. No.129 (60) –LW dated 25.01.1978 of Labour Department, Government of West). A dedicated Central Cell called “Exempted Category Cell” has been formed which functions under the Directorate Of Employment, West Bengal, at 67 Bentinck Street, Kolkata- 700069.

Submission of names against vacancies reserved for Exempted Categories:
On receipt of names of eligible persons from the competent authorities, registrations were centrally done at the Exempted Category Cell under the Directorate of Employment, West Bengal, earlier. But since May 2012 the process of registration of Exempted Category persons have been decentralised. At present registration of Exempted Category persons are done in the office of the Jt. Director of employment of the district where the persons ordinarily reside.
Presently, renewal of registration of Exempted Category persons are done at the Local Employment Exchange on production of original Ration Card / Voter’s Identity card along with the Identity Card of Exempted Category Cell.
On receipt of vacancies reserved for Exempted Category candidates from different employing authorities in Government/ Semi- Government and Local Bodies suitable candidates are sponsored as per their requisition.
Classes of persons falling in Exempted Category
Following categories of persons have been included in “Exempted Category”.
- Dependents of employees dying in harness
- Dependents of employees retiring incapacitated
- Persons belonging to the families of Land Losers
- Ex- Census Employees
- Election Job Workers/ Enumerators
- Meritorious Sports Persons
Dependents of employees dying in harness and Dependents of employees retiring incapacitated have overriding priorities and such cases are dealt with by the respective departments. The rest four categories are dealt with by the Exempted Category cell under the Directorate Of Employment, West Bengal.
